I am weak but He is strong

I am enjoying the Bible series on the History channel. The other night we watched as Joshua led the Israelites around the walls of Jericho. It made me think about the passages from Joshua 1:9 and Deuteronomy 31:8, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go,” “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (NIV). Those Scripture verses have always been very encouraging to me.

I was nervous about my first week of teaching the onsite class probably because I had such an awful experience the last time I taught. It was so bad that it made me wonder if I should have a different occupation. The incident made me think about Acts 19:13-16, and then I thought about Luke 9:40, where it says, “I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”

I believe that terrible class I took on was a task that God did not want me to take. I went into it with my own power and it left me emotionally beaten. It is no coincidence that all this happened a few days before I left for Nepal, and it is no coincidence that while in Nepal I had the dream that said, “You are weak… it will overtake you.”

I was (and still am) weak. I never want to go into another situation without God’s direction and guidance—I want to make sure He is not only with me, but that He has also prepared the way for me. How many times have you done something that God had not sanctioned? Do everything by His power and wait for Him to guide and direct you.
